A chain trencher mainly consists of a power system, a reduction system, a chain drive system, and a soil distribution system. The diesel engine transmits power to the clutch via a belt, which then drives the travel gearbox, drive shaft, rear axle, and other components, achieving linear motion. Power can also be transmitted via a four-way belt to the reduction gearbox, driving the main sprocket.
The chain drive system includes the trenching chain, drive sprocket, driven sprocket, tension sprocket (agitator), and chain cutters (cutters/shovels) mounted on the chain. The chain rotates under the drive of the main sprocket, and the chain cutters move accordingly to cut soil. The working arm (support) supports and mounts the sprockets, chain, and other components. The soil distribution system mainly refers to the auger conveyor (lateral auger conveyor), used to transport the cut soil to one or both sides of the trench.
Some models also include a frame, gearbox, and lifting device.
