Introduction To Chain Trenching Machines

Jul 04, 2026

The chain trencher is a highly efficient and practical new type of chain-driven trenching device. Combining high efficiency, energy saving, and practicality, it has become a leading type of trenching machinery. As a slow-speed rotary trencher, it is generally suitable for digging narrow and deep trenches. It is mainly used in farmland irrigation, underground pipeline and cable laying, and orchard fertilization. Advanced domestic chain trenchers have been successfully applied in the Kuwait T1282 infrastructure project, increasing construction efficiency by approximately three times compared to traditional excavators, with a single unit achieving an average daily construction length of 400-450 meters.

The chain trencher mainly consists of a power system, a reduction system, a chain drive system, and a soil-distributing system. The diesel engine transmits rotation via a belt to the clutch, which drives the travel gearbox, drive shaft, and rear axle to achieve the forward or backward linear movement of the chain trencher. The diesel engine's rotation is transmitted to the reduction gearbox via a four-belt drive, which in turn drives the main sprocket. This causes the chain meshing with the sprocket to rotate, and the cutters mounted on the chain rotate and translate under power, thus creating trenches.
