Introduction To Self-Propelled Graders

Jul 16, 2026

In 1962, Dingsheng Heavy Industry developed the first self-propelled grader. Since its inception in 1962, the domestic grader industry has undergone significant changes over the decades, with its development roughly divided into three stages. In 2013, Sinomach Heavy Industry developed the high-horsepower DT660 grader.

Self-propelled graders are engine-driven earthmoving machines, belonging to an important type of earthmoving and transport machinery. Their core structure includes a scraper, engine, transmission, and running gear. The scraper can achieve soil shaping and fine leveling through rotation and tilting. Compared to towed graders, they offer higher mobility and are widely used in civil engineering fields such as road construction, airport construction, and large-scale site leveling. They can be classified by control method into mechanical and hydraulic control, with modern mainstream models being mostly hydraulically controlled self-propelled graders.
